Throw the Maps Out, Let’s Get Lost!!

My happy song.  We all have one.  Or two.  I have more than two, but the song I want to talk about is tops right now.  It just might always be tops in my book..

Up at the top of this blog page, by the picture of my yellow jeep, is a quote from one of my favorite pop songs, Great Bright Morning by Casey Abrams.  You may have wondered why that quote is there and what it means.  Maybe not.  Anyway... from the first time I heard it’s catchy tune, and listened to the lyrics, it spoke to the whimsical side of my soul.  I was literally filled with WANDERLUST!!
No really!!  I'm not even kidding!  It is simply sung to a simple tune.  If you would like listen to it, the link is below.  But beware, it might stir the wanderlust in YOU!

The very first time I heard this song was shortly after my youngest daughter’s wedding.

The Newlyweds
She had made a “wedding CD” to be played at her reception.  Not long after this big event, I had to take a trip to Phoenix AZ.  It’s about a 7 hour road trip from where we were living at the time.  I grabbed some random CD’s as we headed out the door and I forgot about them until on our return home.  I inserted the wedding CD into the player and grew nostalgic as I listened to this youngest daughter’s favorite songs and reminisced about her wedding day.  I grew a little weepy.  Then this song came on.

Have you ever had that feeling that something is just meant for YOU?  I don’t mean a pile of money or a fancy new car or even those red stilletos (gag sounds).

I mean something - a movie, a song, a quote, a story or even an inspiring sunset- that has spoken to your heart and has resonated within your very soul?  Sounds corny, huh.  Well, it happens, and it happened big time to me when I heard this song.  I hit “replay” so many times on that trip!  I have listened to this song SO often that it has literally been worn off the CD.  I have to listen to it on YouTube now.

It makes me want to head off into the sunset with my favorite (my best friend and husband, Dan).  I want to roll down the windows, let the wind blow through our thinning hair, and while singing at the top of my voice, to “throw the maps out” and just get lost.  It inspires me.  It makes me brave enough for new places and adventures.  Bottom line:  this song just makes me smile, from the inside out.

I think everyone needs to feel this way from time to time.  So I’m going to share it with you.   You are welcome.
Here are the lyrics.  Listen to the music (link here) and I dare you NOT to sing along.  It’s impossible!
Here’s the link.  Great Bright Morning

And the words - aka "lyrics"  ;)

Great Bright Morning

Throw the maps out, let's get lost
Nothing matters but the two of us
All the world for us to see
Let's go find a little mystery

Dig our toes
Into the open road

We go into this great bright morning
Leave the rest of this world behind
Falling into this great bright morning
You and I
You and I

Treat me like a best friend
We don't have to speak at all
Counting clouds and chasing dreams
Through the streams and the waterfalls

Dig our toes
Into the open road

We go into this great bright morning
Leave the rest of this world behind
Falling into this great bright morning
You and I
You and I
(Repeat 2 more times)
